August Alsina Gets Emotional, Talks Slain Brother & Being Homeless, performs ‘Ghetto’

20 year old New Orleans native and Def Jam signee, August Alsina has just dropped his debut EP to digital retailers and to Best Buy. It’s entitled,Β Downtown: Life Under The Gun, and features hits like “I Luv This Shit” feat. Trinidad James and “Ghetto” feat. Rich Homie Quan. Recently, while supporting the EP, August stopped by ‘Sway In The Morning’ to talk about his upbringing and his music. He let the listeners in on the fact that he lost his father to drugs and his brother to violence, and was homeless growing up in New Orleans. The singer got a little emotional after hearing a couple of fans call in and support him; then he carried on to perform his new single, the aforementioned “Ghetto” and his song “Downtown.” Peep all the action below:

Real, raw talent. Real, raw emotion. This dude has been through it all. At age 20. You can’t help but to respect that and applaud this man for telling his story. Big ups to August.
