Diddy Finalizes Revolt TV Deal with Time Warner Cable, Channel to Launch in Fall

 

It was announced about 2 years ago, and we’ve been excited for the launch ever since. Diddy, the media mogul behind Bad Boy Records, Sean John Clothing, Ciroc Vodka, and much of the programming on MTV throughout the mid 2000s, is back to shape the culture in a new progressive way. Revolt TV will serve as the newest music & culture channel, picking up where MTV has fallen short in the last few years, and reinventing the way we watch TV.

Revolt TV, the upcoming cable network led by Sean Combs, has finalized a national carriage agreement with Time Warner Cable (TWC). Together with previously announced distribution through Comcast, this will make Revolt one of the largest launches in cable TV history when it goes live this fall. This broad reach is especially significant for Revolt TV in gaining early traction in major urban markets across the United States.  Envisioned as a maverick television channel with an emphasis on music programming, live content and a robust social media component, Revolt TV is scheduled to launch in Fall 2013.

When speaking to potential advertisers in Cannes, France, Diddy had this to say about his network:

“There was no longer a platform for musical artists to trust with their art and with their creativity, and also no place that was covering music [as ESPN covered sports and CNN covered news],” Combs explained. “For music, you just had to go into the abyss or the stratosphere with no plan, no destination. I was trying to get myself booked on Dancing With the Stars because there was no place for me to go to tell my story.”

Revolt “will be authentic and speak their language,” he said of its coverage of artists. “I want to celebrate who they really are … Cool is priceless.”

This will be the first TV network built with social layers. Revolt also promises to help advertisers connect with up-and-coming artists in order to leverage strategic marketing partnerships. If you look at Twitter, top shows in the U.S. and globally are music-related, he said. “That’s a lot of power.”

REVOLT TV promises to show music videos, live performances, interviews, specials, documentaries, as well as original programming and films. It also will have an unprecedented “live” aspect with the way it communicates with consumers via social media channels. Excited?
