Emeli Sande is trying everything possible to break big in the United States, and nothing has worked so far. She’s performed on Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel, The Ellen Show, but something’s not connecting with the audience like it did in the UK last year. So now, she’s released a remix of her US single, “Next To Me.” This remix features two short and gritty verses from the most highly revered rookie rapper of the moment, Kendrick Lamar. Check out the remix below:
Meh. Kendrick added nothing to this track. If she (or should I say her label) really wanted to connect to the US audience, they shouldn’t have chose this song as her big budget single. This song is nice, but it’s middle of the road, it’s borderline generic. She has much better songs on her debut album (“Heaven” or “My Kind Of Love” for example) that would’ve made a much bigger impact. But hey, I’m rooting for Emeli. Her talent is immense and much needed in an industry where talent runs slim these days.
