Up-and-coming rapper/singer Freddy Hefner has been making a name for herself for a couple of years now, but things really started to come to fruition for the Los Angeles-born (Crenshaw & Slauson) songstress. She grew up singing in the church, but moved to New York at the age of 17 to pursue a career in music. While there, she recently graduated from St. John’s (like J. Cole) with degrees in Communications and Business. Her song “New Body” made some major moves last year, garnering airplay on NYC’s Power 105.1, and garnering major attention on music blogs. Now in 2014, Freddy is back with a new mixtape entitled, ‘Goodluck II’, cleverly being released on St. Patrick’s Day.
Freddy Hefner is a rapper, but her music is very R&B rooted; it’s very melodic, but very fast. It’s the perfect blend of soulful hip hop and R&B. The vibe is very summery; the entire mixtape is something you can play from start to finish on a chill weekend. Songs like “Imaginary” and “Dollaz” showcase the mood perfectly. A great mixtape.
