Yup. You read that titled right. A Tupac Shakur-themed musical is heading to Broadway this Spring. ‘Holler If Ya Hear Me’ is the name of the musical; however, it will not be based around the life of Tupac Shakur. It will be an $8 million original play with a story of “friendship, family, revenge, hope and change as poor residents struggle against challenges in their lives.” Several 2pac songs, including “Me Against The World”, “Keep Ya Head Up”, “California Love”, and “Holler If Ya Hear Me” will be sung throughout the play. 2pac’s mother, Afeni Shakur, serves as one of the play’s producers, with Tony Award-nominated Kenny Leon serving as director and Todd Kreidler serving as the head writer.
Opening night is set for June 19th, with performances starting on May 26th at the Palace Theater.
