You know how there’s been like 10 GREAT artists to come from the UK in the last 3 years or so? Well, that list is about to grow a little longer. Joining the likes of Adele, Jessie J, Emeli Sande, Jessie Ware, Lianne La Havas, Florence & The Machine, Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding, and James Blake, is a 22 year old singer-songwriter Tom Odell. Signed to Columbia Records and Lily Allen’s label ‘In The Name Of,’ the singer only has one EP under his belt, but he’s being named the next big thing to come out of the British Isles.
Tom was named the Critic’s Choice Award winner for this year’s Brit Awards (the UK equivalent to Grammy’s). That feat alone solidifies the huge future he has ahead of him as, last year, Emeli Sande won the Critic’s Choice Award. The year before her, Jessie J won the award. Adele also won this same award. He was also a finalist on the BBC’s Sound Of 2013 list, another precursor into his huge future.
Tom’s sound is very different than what’s current on he radio. It’s filled with substance and it’s very inspired by greats like Elton John and Bob Dylan. If I had to compare to any current artists, we’d name Mikky Ekko (the man behind Rihanna’s “Stay”) or Chris Martin of Coldplay. It’s very raw, very soulful and emotional pop music, and we love it. Below is a performance of his song “Sense” at the 2013 BRIT Awards Critics Choice ceremony. Also, check out his song “Another Love,” which is taken from his debut EP, Songs From Another Love.
Tom Odell’s debut album Long Way Down is slated to be released this April (in the UK) with a single (“Hold Me”) set to be released on March 18th.
