Another day, another strategic business move by Mr. Shawn Carter, a.k.a Jay Z. Today, it was announced that Jay Z would be teaming up with TV channel Showtime to premiere his new documentary, ‘Made In America.’ The news comes just hours before Jay Z’s Budweiser-sponsored ‘Made In America’ music festival kicks off in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The film was directed by Ron Howard & executively produced by Jay Z & Howard. The film will be a star-studded look into the making and the running of Jay Z’s new festival. It is set to air October 11th on Showtime.
“As soon as we saw this film we knew it was a perfect fit for Showtime,” Showtime’s entertainment president David Nevins said in a statement announcing the news Friday. “Ron Howard and Jay Z have crafted an inspirational portrayal of American resilience, drive and creativity, interwoven with an incredible showcase of musical talent. We are proud to bring Made in America to Showtime where it joins our impressive roster of provocative and compelling documentaries helmed by award-winning filmmakers.”
The film, which is produced by RadicalMedia and Participant Media, features performances and interviews with a diverse roster of musicians, including Rita Ora, Passion Pit, Pearl Jam, Run D.M.C., Jill Scott and Kanye West, among several others. It will debut at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 7.
