i am Other/So So Def/Epic Records singer Leah Labelle is back with a new single. Her debut single “Sexify” garnered her a small amount of buzz in 2012, but she really didn’t blow up like many thought she would. Now, she’s back with a new single. And it’s a much better sound for her. But is it enough? Check out the Pharrell produced “Lolita” below:
This song is MUCH better and MUCH stronger than “Sexify” was, but I still don’t think it’s “big” enough to propel her into the big leagues. I get that her sound is going to be a throwback R&B vibe, but I really need Pharrell to re-evaluate what he’s doing with her. Maybe give her something a little more current, a little more fresh, something with some street edge, then go back to the throwback staple. I think alot of it has to do with the fact that she’s signed to Jermaine Dupri as well, who’s super dated (look at where he got Dondria: absolutely nowhere) as well. I don’t know….I really like Leah; she’s an AMAZING vocalist (her vocals are going unnoticed in these songs), and she’s super sexy. But this direction she’s going in is just not going to work in today’s market I don’t think.
