This, this is insane. Never in a million years would one have thought that Robin Thicke would receive a #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2013. The odds were so stacked against him: EDM ruling the airwaves, Justin Timberlake popularizing his sound, etc. But Robin, thanks to the insanely catchy hook and the summer production from Pharrell, has garner his first ever #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. Congrats!
“Blurred Lines” also tops the Digital Songs tally for the second week, selling 315,000 downloads, pushing the overall number over 1 million. This feat surpasses his previous best with hit single “Lost Without U,” which was downloaded 946,000 and peaked at no. 14 on the Hot 100 chart in 2007.
“Lines” rises 2-1 to become Thicke’s third No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, following “Lost” (11 weeks, 2007) and “Sex Therapy” (two, 2010). It’s T.I.’s fourth (and first since 2008’s “Whatever You Like”) and Pharrell’s fourth (and first since “Money”) on the genre tally. “Lines” racks a fourth week atop the recently launched R&B Songs chart. – Billboard
Robin’s new album, also titled, Blurred Lines, is due out July 9th, the same day as Ciara’s self-titled 5th album.
