Looks like FOX is looking to finally birth a show to compete with ABC’s juggernaut daytime talk show, ‘The View.’ Now that Barbara Walters has announced her retirement from TV, and Joy Behar has announced her leaving of The View as well, FOX is striking while ABC is vunerable and will be testing a young, ethnicaly-centered version of the The View this summer, entitled ‘The Real.’
The five ladies making up the panel will be R&B singer Tamar Braxton, singer/actress/personality Adrienne Bailon, actress Tamera Mowry, comedian Loni Love, and TV personality Jeannie Mai. 3 African-American women, 1 Latina, 1 Asian will make up the panel; all ladies being under the age of 40.
The Real will premiere on local Fox-owned stations on July 8 for a summer test run, reports Broadcasting & Cable. Sources for that site say that this date is not set in stone. Fox also hasn’t decided what networks to run it in and how long each episode will be.
Telepictures will be hoping that they can replicate the success of Bethenny Frankel’s show Bethenny, which also had a summer run before it was syndicated nationwide in the fall, as well as Wendy Williams’ show, The Wendy Williams Show.
Fox is also testing Kris, a talk show hosted by Kardashian family matriarch Kris Jenner, this summer. It premieres on July 15.
And now it makes even more sense as to why Tamar Braxton has pushed back her album until the fall. Not only will she have given birth and recooperated by then, but she could potentially have a very successful, nationally syndicated daytime talk show as well. Very smart marketing by her husband, Vincent Hurbert. The man’s a genius!
